THE NODDACLU
STORY ( the long version)
In 1991 Kevin
Morris ( original bass player), Tom Geurriero (original guitarist),
and then drummer Kevin Berry started to really get into the sounds
of reggae including the king album of them all 'Bob Marley's
Legend'. After many trips into Boston to see local reggae bands such
as Loose Caboose, Diversity, Search Party, Wilson Blue... we were
hooked.
The Beginning:
Now here we were trying to start up a reggae band, but Kevin Berry
the drummer had another band he was working with and didn't want to
commit to the project 100% early on so Kevin Morris brought in a
long time friend and drummer Brent Donahue to help get the rhythm
started. Soon we were in need of someone that could sing and maybe
even knew something about reggae and in came this little dreadlock
guy called Iman. Well, he certainly knew reggae, but singing wasn't
his forte. After a few weeks of really listening to the music and
trying to reproduce the reggae beat, Brent called and said he had
met a guy pumping gas at a Cumberland Farms in Plymouth and he
looked like a 'reggae dude' and said he was a singer. Well that
night in came our first singer John Warner. Cheech as he called
himself worked at the Christian Science Center in Boston and knew a
girl named Erica who played not only keyboards, but loved reggae. We
were off and running. Kevin Berry and Brent shared the drum
responsibilities, Tom on guitar, Kevin Morris on bass and Noddaclu
was ready to roll out their first show. Only weeks later did Cheech
bring by a friend by the name of Tony who loved to jump up and sing
a few Yellowman tunes with the band from time to time. Well that
bald headed dude has turned out to be the best thing that has come
to NODDACLU over the years and DJ Tony was born! Now sporting
a long set of locks and now the front man of the band. Also early
on, Erica left the band to be replaced by Nate Richardson. A guitar
player willing to learn the keys. He has since moved on and has
played with John Brown's Body for several years. Since those days we
have had the crazy calypsonion Adrian Bryan from the Tropical Fire
band as a regular for several years as well. He is now focusing his
attention on his own band and introduced Verden Matthias as his
replacement and that has worked out amazing. Here is some of the
people that have come and gone that I can remember at least:

Our First Show:
Elaine's
Restaurant Hull, MA February 21, 1992. The place held 115 people and
we had 267 pay at the door. Hull was a Rock & Roll town loving bands
like Aerosmith, and this changed that for many people. Reggae fans
and new reggae lovers started coming out of the walls and NODDACLU
shows were the place to be.
Our First CD:
The Ultimate Backyard Reggae Party came out in 1995 with a different
band than today. That Cd is out of print but sold over 2000 copies
in a few short weeks.
Our New CD:
Is out and has received rave reviews. 12 tunes of roots reggae, soca,
ska, and dancehall make up this very high quality recording.
Recorded at Soundtrack in Boston by engineer and musician Mike
Secher. We have never been more proud of a project than this one.

Our Shows:
If you have been to see a NODDACLU show, then you have probably seen
many. Our fans are the best in the business. No attitudes, no
violence, and plenty of good vibes. The show is upbeat with a party
edge that makes the reggae come alive. The diverse set list touches
many different styles giving everyone something to dance to. We can
play to many different audiences as well. We are not afraid to play
Hot Hot Hot or 3 Little Birds. Those songs make people jump out of
there seats to party and that is what it is all about.
Rasta:
Although this band has members with and without dreadlocks, we are
not Rastafarians in the traditional sense. We believe people have a
right to be who they are! Our crowd is black, white, Indian,
Chinese... all getting along with their own lifestyles and beliefs.
We do sing about Jah and Rastafari in many of our songs including
original music. One Love, One Heart as Bob Marley sings about stands
true with us as well. We all want to live a positive and happy life,
and we try to help our fans do just that. And we love telling
jokes about all people regardless of their color or religion. After
all, people are funny and we know you all have a few giggles seeing
us up on stage.
The Band Today
Many changes
have taken place over the years and little by little we have been
able to plug the right people into our mix.
